A new whole leaf first flush black tea from the Wah tea garden, in Himachal Pradesh. This northernmost region of India is not as famous as Darjeeling, but every bit as wondrous - known as the Land of the Gods. Picked at dawn in the first days of spring, this is the brightest tea you’ll ever drink.
I was skeptical about a first flush from Himachal, but these whole leaves from Wah are genuinely bright and delicate. Brewed it a bit cooler and got a clean, almost floral cup that kept its character through the second steep. The bag arrived sealed fresh with plenty of leaf for the price.
The leaves are whole and dense, unfolding beautifully in the pot for a second and even third steep. It’s got that clean, mountain air character I wasn’t expecting from a first flush, with none of the astringency I usually brace for.
